Nusa Dua Hotels — Where To Stay in Bali
A manicured resort enclave with calm, swimmable white-sand beaches.
Best Hotels in Nusa Dua
Nusa Dua is a planned, gated resort enclave on Bali's south-east coast, built around a manicured beachfront with security gates, wide landscaped roads and almost exclusively large international resorts. If you want a self-contained beach holiday where the pool, the beach, the kids' club and three restaurants are inside one property, this is the area designed for it.
The beach is the quietest and calmest in southern Bali outside Sanur, protected by an offshore reef, with a paved promenade linking the resorts and the Bali Collection shopping and dining precinct in the middle.
Nusa Dua also covers the adjacent Tanjung Benoa strip to the north, which is where the water sports, smaller hotels and more affordable rooms are.

Where To Stay in Nusa Dua
Inside the gates you are choosing between beachfront resorts on the main crescent and inland resorts a short walk or buggy ride back. Beachfront costs more and is worth it here because the beach is genuinely usable all day. Everything inside the enclave is walkable on the promenade, and resort shuttles run to Bali Collection.
Outside the gates, Tanjung Benoa gives you the same calm water at lower rates, plus banana boats, parasailing and dive operators along one main road. It is the practical choice for families who want water sports and cheaper rooms and do not need the manicured enclave.
Be clear-eyed about the trade-off: Nusa Dua is separated from ordinary Bali. Local warungs, markets and street life are a drive away, so if you want to wander into a village for dinner, this is not the area.

Best Areas to Stay in Nusa Dua
- Nusa Dua beachfront crescent
- The gated strip of large beachfront resorts with direct access to the promenade and calm swimming. Best for full-service, all-in-one holidays.
- Bali Collection / inland Nusa Dua
- Resorts set back from the beach around the shopping and dining precinct, generally cheaper, with shuttles to the sand.
- Tanjung Benoa
- The peninsula strip north of the gates, with mid-range hotels, water sports operators and a run of restaurants. Better value and more local activity.
- Sawangan and the southern edge
- Clifftop and beachfront resorts on the quieter south end, above Geger and Sawangan beaches, with a more secluded feel.
Hotels in Nusa Dua by Budget
Budget
There is very little genuinely budget accommodation inside the Nusa Dua gates. Travellers on tighter budgets stay in Tanjung Benoa or Bualu village just outside, where guesthouses and small hotels sit within a short ride of the same beaches.
Mid-range
Four-star resorts inland from the beach and larger hotels in Tanjung Benoa, most with big pools, buffet breakfast and shuttles. Check the walking time to the beach — 'Nusa Dua' addresses can be up to a kilometre from the sand.
Luxury
Nusa Dua has Bali's deepest concentration of large five-star beachfront resorts, with multiple pools, kids' clubs, spas, several restaurants and conference facilities. Villas with private pools exist within these resorts rather than as standalone rentals.
Best Nusa Dua Hotels for Couples, Families & More
- Families
- The safest swimming in south Bali, gated grounds, kids' clubs and buffet dining make Nusa Dua the most straightforward family base on the island, particularly for a first trip with young children.
- Couples and honeymooners
- Adults-only wings, spa resorts and quiet clifftop properties at the southern end. Nusa Dua is calm rather than romantic-rustic; couples wanting scenery often pair it with Ubud or Uluwatu.
- Golfers and conference travellers
- The enclave has a championship course and the island's main convention centre, and the resorts are geared to both.
- Travellers who want a resort holiday
- If your plan is a pool, a beach and a spa rather than daily excursions, Nusa Dua delivers that more reliably than anywhere else in Bali.
Things To Do Near Nusa Dua Hotels
Inside the enclave: the beach promenade, the Water Blow rock-spout at the northern point, Bali Collection for shopping and dining, the Pasifika Museum, and golf. The reef makes for gentle snorkelling straight off several resort beaches.
Tanjung Benoa is Bali's water sports centre — parasailing, jet-skis, banana boats, glass-bottom-boat trips to Turtle Island and dive courses. Uluwatu temple and the Bukit's surf beaches are 30 to 40 minutes away, and day tours to Ubud and the east coast pick up from Nusa Dua resorts. See things to do in Bali for options.

Getting to Nusa Dua From Bali Airport
Nusa Dua is roughly 12 to 15 kilometres from Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) and is one of the fastest transfers in Bali — usually 25 to 40 minutes, because the Mandara toll road and the Bypass avoid most of the congestion.
Nearly every Nusa Dua resort sells an airport transfer, and pre-booked private transfers are straightforward because the resorts have proper porte-cochère drop-offs and security check-ins at the gate.
Late arrivals are less of a problem here than in Canggu or Ubud: the drive is short, the roads are good and resort reception desks are staffed overnight.

Frequently Asked Questions About Nusa Dua Hotels
- Is Nusa Dua good for families with young children?
- Yes. The reef-protected beach is calm and shallow, the resorts are gated with kids' clubs and shallow pools, and the airport transfer is short. It is the most convenient family base in Bali, though it is quite separated from local village life.
- What is the difference between Nusa Dua and Tanjung Benoa?
- Nusa Dua is the gated resort enclave with large five-star beachfront hotels. Tanjung Benoa is the strip just north, with mid-range hotels, water sports and more local restaurants, sharing the same calm water at lower prices.
- Can you walk to restaurants from Nusa Dua hotels?
- You can walk the beach promenade between resorts and to Bali Collection, which has restaurants and shops. Beyond that, dining outside the enclave means a taxi or resort shuttle.
- How long is the transfer from Bali airport to Nusa Dua?
- About 12 to 15 kilometres and generally 25 to 40 minutes via the Mandara toll road, making it one of the quickest airport runs on the island.
- Is Nusa Dua better than Sanur for a beach holiday?
- Both have calm reef-protected water. Nusa Dua has newer, larger five-star resorts and a manicured private feel; Sanur is more of a real town with a beach path, cheaper mid-range hotels and more local restaurants within walking distance.
- Is there surf near Nusa Dua?
- Yes, there are reef breaks off Nusa Dua and Geger that work in the wet season, but they are boat or paddle access and not beginner-friendly. Learners are better served at Kuta or Canggu.
