Climate guide

Bali Weather Planning Guide

General seasonal patterns — useful for choosing travel dates, but separate from the live forecast above.

Best Time To Visit Bali

Bali sits close to the equator, so temperatures stay warm all year — usually between 23°C and 32°C at sea level. What changes is rainfall and humidity. Most travellers choose the dry season for reliable beach weather, while the wet season brings lower prices, greener landscapes and quieter attractions. Seasons shift from year to year, so treat the months below as typical patterns rather than a prediction.

Bali Dry Season

Roughly April to October. Expect long sunny days, lower humidity, calmer seas on the east coast and steady offshore winds that make the Bukit Peninsula popular with surfers. Rain still happens, but usually as brief showers. July and August are the busiest and driest months, so book airport transfers and popular tours and activities in advance.

Bali Wet Season

Roughly November to March. Mornings are often clear, with heavy rain arriving in the afternoon or overnight and clearing within an hour or two. Humidity is high, the island is at its greenest and waterfalls are at full flow. Boat trips to Nusa Penida and the Gili Islands are more likely to be affected by swell, so keep plans flexible.

Bali Weather By Month

January
Peak wet season. Heavy afternoon downpours, high humidity and temperatures around 26–31°C. Beaches are still usable between showers, but plan indoor or short-notice activities.
February
Typically the wettest month. Frequent rain, warm seas and lush landscapes. Good value for accommodation; less reliable for full beach days.
March
Rain begins to ease late in the month. Still humid with occasional storms, but more sunny mornings and fewer crowds.
April
Shoulder month as the dry season starts. Noticeably less rain, comfortable humidity and reliable beach weather most days.
May
One of the best months. Dry, sunny, low humidity and clean surf. Excellent for day trips, waterfalls and outdoor dining.
June
Dry and pleasant with cooler evenings, especially in Ubud and the highlands. Consistently good beach and snorkelling conditions.
July
Peak season. Dry, breezy and sunny with the island at its busiest. Book transfers and popular tours ahead.
August
Dry, windy on the south coast and very popular. Ideal for surfing at Uluwatu and clear-water snorkelling days.
September
Still firmly dry season with slightly warmer days and thinning crowds — often the sweet spot for weather and value.
October
Transition month. Mostly dry early on, with humidity building and the first afternoon showers arriving later in the month.
November
Wet season begins. Short, heavy afternoon storms with sunny mornings. Green landscapes and quieter beaches.
December
Wet and humid, with a busy Christmas and New Year period. Expect rain most days, usually in bursts rather than all day.

These are general climate notes, not a forecast. For the days you are actually travelling, use the live 7-day forecast above.

What To Pack For Bali Weather

  • Lightweight clothing

Loose cotton and linen handle the heat and humidity far better than synthetics.

  • Rain jacket or poncho

A packable layer is enough — wet-season rain is heavy but usually short.

  • Sunscreen

The UV index regularly reaches extreme levels. High SPF, reapplied often.

  • Hat and sunglasses

Shade is limited on beaches, boats and temple walks.

  • Comfortable footwear

Sandals for the beach plus grippy shoes for waterfalls, rice terraces and temple steps.

  • Swimwear

Bring two sets — humidity means nothing dries quickly.

  • Light layers

Evenings in Ubud, Bedugul and Kintamani are cooler than the coast.
