Bali Holidays From Australia

Bali is Australia's most-visited overseas holiday destination for good reason: short flights, a favourable exchange rate and a genuine choice between doing everything and doing nothing.

How Long Should You Go For?

Seven to ten nights is the sweet spot for most Australian travellers. It gives you two or three days to settle into one area, time for a day trip or two, and enough slack that a rainy afternoon doesn't derail the trip.

Shorter trips of four or five nights work well from Perth and Darwin, where the flight is genuinely short. From the east coast, anything under five nights means spending a meaningful share of your holiday in transit.

Longer stays of two weeks or more suit travellers who want to split their time — a few nights in the hills around Ubud, then a week on the coast in Seminyak, Canggu or Uluwatu.

Choosing Where To Base Yourself

Bali is not one destination, and where you stay shapes the entire holiday. Seminyak suits travellers who want restaurants, beach clubs and walkable shopping. Canggu is younger, surf-driven and full of cafés. Ubud trades beaches for rice terraces, temples and wellness.

Uluwatu delivers clifftop views and the island's best surf, but you'll rely on transport for everything. Nusa Dua is polished, quiet and family-friendly. Sanur is calm, flat and the easiest area for older travellers or families with prams.

Traffic is the deciding factor most people underestimate. A 20-kilometre trip can take well over an hour in peak periods, so choose an area that puts you near the things you actually want to do.

Budgeting For Bali

Bali stretches an Australian budget further than almost any comparable destination, but the range is wide. Guesthouses and warungs keep daily costs very low, while five-star resorts and beach clubs sit at prices comparable to Australia.

Build in a realistic transport budget. Private drivers by the day are inexpensive and remove the stress of navigating Bali's roads, and pre-booked airport transfers avoid the arrivals-hall scramble entirely.

We deliberately don't publish estimated holiday costs. Prices move constantly with season and availability, so every price on this site comes from the partner that actually sells the product.
