Bali Family Holidays

Bali is one of the easiest overseas destinations to take Australian kids to — short flights, warm water, and accommodation that treats children as guests rather than an inconvenience.

Best Areas For Families

Nusa Dua is the easy answer: calm, reef-protected beaches, wide footpaths, large resorts with kids' clubs and very little traffic inside the enclave. It's the lowest-friction option with young children.

Sanur suits families who want a real neighbourhood rather than a resort strip. The beach is flat and shallow, the beachfront path is perfect for scooters and prams, and it's the closest major area to the Nusa Penida fast boats.

Seminyak works well for families with older kids who want restaurants and shopping within walking distance. Canggu and Uluwatu are better for teenagers who surf than for toddlers — both have strong currents and steep access in places.

Villas Or Resorts?

Private pool villas are outstanding value in Bali and often cost less than two hotel rooms. They give you a kitchen, space to spread out, and a pool the kids can use without an audience. Confirm whether the pool is fenced — most are not.

Resorts win on convenience: kids' clubs, multiple pools, on-site dining and a doctor on call. For a first trip with young children, that support is worth paying for.

Practical Tips For Flying With Kids

Pre-book a private airport transfer with child seats. Bali arrivals with tired kids and luggage is not the moment to negotiate a fare, and metered taxis rarely carry restraints.

Build the itinerary around one activity a day. Bali traffic turns a two-stop plan into a full day in the car, and everyone enjoys the trip more with an afternoon back at the pool.

Check that your travel insurance covers your children, and read the exclusions around scooters, water activities and pre-existing conditions before you fly.
