Bali Airport & Arrivals

Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) sits between Kuta and Jimbaran, minutes from most southern resort areas. Here's how arrival day usually unfolds.

Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS)

Bali's only commercial airport is I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, airport code DPS. It handles all international and domestic flights to the island and is located in Tuban, on the southern isthmus.

Terminals

There are two terminals — international and domestic — connected by a short covered walkway. Almost all flights from Australia and other long-haul origins arrive at the international terminal.

Arriving In Bali, Step By Step

Immigration

After disembarking you'll clear immigration. Most visitors travel on a visa on arrival or e-VOA, and many people complete the electronic customs declaration before landing. Rules change from time to time — see our Bali immigration and visas page and always confirm with official Indonesian sources before you fly.

Baggage collection

Belts are signposted by flight number. Trolleys are free, and porters may offer help — agree a tip in advance if you accept.

Customs

Bags pass through a customs screening point on the way out. Declare anything you are unsure about rather than risking a penalty.

Getting Out Of The Airport

The arrivals hall exits into a busy meeting area where drivers hold name boards. A pre-booked private transfer is the least stressful option after a long or overnight flight, and prices are fixed before you land.

Compare Bali airport transfer routes and travel times — Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud, Uluwatu, Nusa Dua and Sanur.

Money & Connectivity

Currency exchange

ATMs and exchange counters are available in the terminal. Airport rates are rarely the best available, so many travellers withdraw a small amount on arrival and change more later at an authorised money changer.

SIM and eSIM options

Physical SIM counters operate in the terminal, but an eSIM bought before departure means you're connected the moment you land. See our Bali eSIM guide.

Airport Facilities

  • Cafés, restaurants and convenience stores in both terminals
  • Duty free and retail concourse after security on departure
  • Airline and independent lounges
  • Prayer rooms, baby change facilities and accessible bathrooms
  • Luggage wrapping and left luggage services

Departing Bali

Allow extra time on the way out. Traffic from Canggu, Ubud and Uluwatu can be slow, and the international terminal gets busy in the late-evening departure peak. Three hours before an international flight is a comfortable target, plus your drive time.
