What To Expect On Arrival

After immigration and baggage collection at Ngurah Rai International Airport, you'll walk through a busy arrivals hall where drivers wait behind a barrier. A pre-booked transfer means someone is holding a board with your name, so you skip the taxi queue and the negotiation entirely.

Travel time to Tanah Lot is typically 45-75 minutes, though Bali traffic is unpredictable — allow extra time in the late afternoon, and expect a slower run on Friday and Sunday evenings.

The Drive To Tanah Lot

The route goes north past Kerobokan and Canggu, then west into Tabanan regency on progressively quieter roads. Once you clear Canggu the traffic thins out and the last stretch runs through rice fields and small villages.

Tanah Lot itself is a ticketed temple site with a large car park and a market walkway between the car park and the shoreline. Accommodation in the area is scattered across resorts and villas rather than a single town centre.

Tanah Lot Transfer Tips

  • Sunset is the busy window at the temple; arriving mid-afternoon avoids both the coach traffic and the worst of the heat.
  • The temple sits on a rock reachable only at low tide — check the tide before planning a close-up visit.
  • There is far less traffic on this route than heading to Ubud, despite the similar distance.
