Adventure covers the active side of Bali: white-water rafting, sunrise volcano treks, ATV and buggy circuits, canyoning, cycling descents and water-based experiences such as seawalking.
Ubud and the Ayung River valley are the base for rafting, ATV and cycling. Mount Batur treks start from Kintamani, and most water-based adventure runs from Nusa Dua, Tanjung Benoa and the south coast.
Pick-ups for sunrise treks can start around 2am. Check that your travel insurance covers the activity, confirm minimum ages and weight limits before booking, and expect to get muddy on ATV and rafting trips.
Planning adventure activities in Bali
- Sunrise activities are non-negotiable on timing. Mount Batur pick-ups run around 2am from the south and closer to 3am from Ubud, so pair them with an Ubud or Kintamani stay if you can.
- Wet-season rafting (November to March) runs higher and faster, which is more fun for confident rafters and less suited to young children.
- Confirm minimum ages, weight limits and licence requirements at booking. Buggy and ATV operators usually allow tandem riding, but drivers may need to be 16 or over.
