What To Expect On Arrival
After immigration and baggage collection at Ngurah Rai International Airport, you'll walk through a busy arrivals hall where drivers wait behind a barrier. A pre-booked transfer means someone is holding a board with your name, so you skip the taxi queue and the negotiation entirely.
Travel time to Uluwatu is typically 30-60 minutes, though Bali traffic is unpredictable — allow extra time in the late afternoon, and expect a slower run on Friday and Sunday evenings.
The Drive To Uluwatu
Jalan Uluwatu runs the length of the Bukit, rising through Jimbaran and Ungasan on a road that has been widened in parts and not in others. Progress is steady rather than fast, and the final approaches to the beaches drop down steep, narrow access lanes.
The Bukit is spread out and hilly. Bingin, Padang Padang, Uluwatu temple and Nyang Nyang are each a separate descent from the ridge road, and some cliff accommodation involves stairs down from a parking area — worth knowing with heavy bags.
Uluwatu Transfer Tips
- There is no meaningful public transport up here; plan on a driver or scooter for the whole stay.
- Traffic builds sharply before the Kecak dance at the temple each evening.
- Steep access lanes and stair-only properties are common — check with your accommodation first.
