Bali travel tips for Korean travellers
Practical tips for travellers from South Korea, from insurance and cash to connectivity, water and local rules.
Travel insurance. Korean National Health Insurance does not cover treatment in Indonesia. Take a policy with emergency medical treatment and medical evacuation, and read the scooter and adventure-activity exclusions before relying on it.
Cash. Bali is much more cash-based than Korea. Carry small rupiah notes for drivers, parking, markets and warungs rather than assuming card or mobile payment will be accepted.
Plugs and power. Indonesia uses Type C/F sockets at 230V, so Korean plugs generally fit and no converter is needed.
Connectivity. Korean carrier roaming can be costly for a longer stay; an eSIM activated before departure is usually cheaper and avoids the arrival queue. Download offline maps before you fly.
Water. Drink bottled or filtered water and use it for brushing teeth. Most hotels and villas provide refill stations.
Food. Busy warungs with high turnover are generally a good sign. Ease into unfamiliar food over the first few days, and note that Indonesian spice heat is different in character to Korean heat.
Sun. Bali is close to the equator and UV is far stronger than a Korean summer, even under cloud.
Time and transfers. The time difference is small, which makes arrival days easy — but Bali's road traffic is slow, so allow far more transfer time than the distance suggests.
Before you go. Check the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs 0404 travel safety portal for Indonesia, consider registering your trip there, and note the Korean Consulate in Denpasar's contact details.
Respect the rules. Indonesian law is strict, particularly on drugs, and penalties are severe. Dress and behave modestly at temples and religious sites.
