Bali travel costs from Germany

For travellers from Germany, the long-haul airfare is usually the single largest part of the budget, and everything on the ground in Bali tends to feel comparatively modest against euro prices at home.

Flights. Bali is a long-haul destination from Germany and most itineraries involve at least one stop, typically through a Gulf hub such as Doha, Dubai or Abu Dhabi, or an Asian hub such as Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Hong Kong or Istanbul. Departures from Frankfurt and Munich generally offer the widest choice of connections. Fares tend to climb around the German school holidays, particularly the summer break and the Christmas and New Year period, so shoulder months are usually the better value.

Accommodation. Bali covers everything from simple guesthouses to five-star beachfront resorts and private-pool villas. Villas can work out well for families or groups because you pay per villa rather than per room, and standards that would be expensive in Europe are often achievable at a mid-range budget here.

On the ground. Meals, drivers, spa treatments and most activities are inexpensive compared with Germany. The exceptions are imported wine and spirits, beach clubs and high-end restaurants in Seminyak and Canggu, which can approach European prices.

Money and payment. The local currency is the Indonesian rupiah (IDR), and the euro is not accepted for everyday spending. Cards are widely taken in hotels, larger restaurants and shops, but cash matters for warungs, drivers, markets and parking. Check your German bank's foreign-transaction and ATM fees before you go, and expect an ATM operator fee per withdrawal in Indonesia — fewer, larger withdrawals usually cost less than many small ones. Girocard/EC alone is often not enough; bring a Visa or Mastercard.

Extras worth budgeting for. Airport transfers, travel insurance including medical evacuation, an eSIM or local SIM, day tours, and any tourist levy or entry fee payable at the time of travel.
