Bali travel costs from China

For travellers from China, Bali is a medium-haul destination rather than a long-haul one, so airfare is a smaller share of the budget than it is for European or North American visitors — accommodation standard and length of stay usually matter more.

Flights. Bali is served directly from several major Chinese cities, and one-stop routings via Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong or Bangkok widen the choice from smaller airports. Fares rise sharply around Chinese New Year, the Labour Day break and the National Day Golden Week, so travelling either side of those periods generally costs noticeably less.

Accommodation. Bali covers everything from simple guesthouses to five-star beachfront resorts and private-pool villas. Villas often work well for families or groups travelling together because you pay per villa rather than per room.

On the ground. Meals, drivers, spa treatments and most activities are inexpensive compared with major Chinese cities. Imported wine and spirits, beach clubs and higher-end restaurants in Seminyak and Canggu are the main exceptions.

Money and payment. The local currency is the Indonesian rupiah (IDR), and CNY is not accepted for everyday spending. Do not assume the mobile payment apps you use at home will work — acceptance in Bali is limited and inconsistent, so bring an international credit or debit card (UnionPay acceptance varies; Visa or Mastercard is more widely taken) and carry cash for warungs, drivers, markets and parking. Expect an ATM operator fee per withdrawal, so fewer, larger withdrawals cost less, and choose to be billed in rupiah rather than CNY.

Extras worth budgeting for. Airport transfers, travel insurance with medical evacuation, an eSIM or local SIM, day tours, and any tourist levy or entry fee payable at the time of travel.
