Getting to Bali
Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Shanghai offer the most reliable direct services to Denpasar, between five and seven hours, with seasonal direct flights from Beijing, Chengdu and Hangzhou. Everywhere else connects easily through Singapore, Kuala Lumpur or Hong Kong. Chinese passport holders normally enter Indonesia on a visa on arrival.

For travellers from China
Entry rules, money and practical planning that apply specifically to Chinese travellers.
Chinese nationals normally enter Indonesia on a visa on arrival, paid at Ngurah Rai airport or bought online beforehand as an e-VOA. It is valid for 30 days and can usually be extended once for a further 30.
Indonesia requires at least six months' passport validity from the date of arrival, and airlines check this at the departure gate in China. The electronic customs declaration is completed online around landing.
Requirements change with little notice — confirm the current rules with the Indonesian embassy or your airline before booking anything non-refundable.
Bali is priced in Indonesian rupiah. Cards are widely accepted in Seminyak, Canggu, Ubud and Nusa Dua, while warungs, markets and private drivers expect cash.
Alipay and WeChat Pay acceptance is patchy outside larger hotels and tourist retailers, so carry a fee-free card and use bank-branch ATMs rather than standalone machines. Always decline the machine's own conversion rate.
Bali charges a tourist levy on arrival, payable online or at the airport. Most hotel quotes include service and tax; some villa quotes do not.
Take comprehensive travel insurance with medical evacuation cover — serious cases in Bali are usually flown to Singapore, and hospitals expect payment or a guarantee up front.
Read the motorcycle clause before hiring a scooter. Most policies only cover scooter injuries if you hold the correct licence plus an international driving permit, and wore a helmet.
Bali's dry season is April to October. Chinese New Year, the early-May holiday, the summer break and National Day in early October are the peak windows; April, May, September and late October offer better value.
