Bali travel tips for Australians
Practical tips for Australians travelling to Bali, from insurance to water and scooters.
Travel insurance. Take a policy, read the activity exclusions, and check the scooter and adventure-activity clauses specifically. Medical evacuation from Bali is expensive without cover.
Water. Drink bottled or filtered water and use it for brushing teeth. Many hotels now provide refill stations.
Food. Busy warungs with high turnover are generally a good sign. Build up gradually rather than eating everything unfamiliar on the first day.
Sun. Bali is close to the equator and UV is intense even on cloudy days.
Cash. Carry small notes for drivers, parking and warungs.
Connectivity. An eSIM activated before departure saves queueing on arrival.
Registration. Australians can register travel plans and read current advice through Smartraveller before departure.
Respect the rules. Indonesian law is strict, particularly regarding drugs. Penalties are severe.
